On an average day, you will find me scoping out the latest clothing and accessories around town. But not today. Today, I spent over an hour rummaging through the stacks at Barnes & Noble. It is one of the few book stores still standing, and I love it. I find all on-line shopping convenient at times, but I strongly prefer going to the store and selecting my products. The only other customers I noticed were clearly students, a few moms and an adorable group of old men lounging in chairs. a.k.a. people with time on their hands! I am sure that has always been the case during the afternoon, but I do long for the days when I used to meet friends for coffee at the book store.
If you are reading this, you may be wondering what I purchased today. I have no shame. I will tell you. I read a lot during the summer while sitting outside attempting to tan myself, so I stocked up. I bought two of the most opposite biographies you can imagine – Isabella Blow and Billy Bob Thornton! I also selected a book on the Camorra in Naples, Italy. That one is a bit random, but I read a really interesting article about the Italian mafia in Vanity Fair which peaked my interest. I also got a book that I have been meaning to read for some time entitled Retail Hell. This one is not everybody’s cup of tea, but I am sure I will be amused being a retired retailer. Finally, I went for a very intellectual read – Fifty Shades of Grey. I take it back. I should be embarrassed!
