One of the most dominant fashion trends right now is print. Animal, Geometric, Ikat, Floral, Plaid, Striped, you name it. Prints are taking over the racks in every store from Target to Barneys. As much as I love prints, they can be difficult to wear and leave a significant amount of room for error. It is easy to mix and match the wrong prints and turn yourself into a big colorful “fashion don’t”.
There are two fool proof ways to wear prints:
1. Limit your print to either a top or bottom and pair it with a solid color
2. Wear a printed dress and pair it with a simple if not solid shoe and possibly a clean cardigan or leather piece if weather permits
For those of you who are more daring, here are a few suggestions:
1. If you decide to embrace full head to toe print, it is often a good idea to break it with a belt. I have seen many gorgeous printed suits that are tied together with a belt and solid underpinning if necessary
2. When mixing two different prints, fashion success is definitely a case by case basis. However, I find stripes compliment all other prints best
3. On days when you want to get in touch with your wild side, wear animal print and only animal print. Africa is not the only place different animals shouldn’t mix!
