Hair and makeup have always gone hand-in-hand with fashion. I love to dress “to the nines” and when I have the right make-up on, I really feel like a “10”. This doesn’t mean that you have to have a full face of make-up. Understated make-up that highlights in the right places can look just as stunning as a fully made up face for the red carpet.

Since I am not a make-up artist, I turn to the experts (usually at Barneys!) to find quality make-up that features gorgeous hues, feels luxurious on the skin, is easy to apply and stays in place (this is crucial if you are being photographed or you’re planning to be out all night). I have found all of these qualities in Serge Lutens’ make-up line and I have to admit that I’m a little obsessed with it.

Serge Lutens has worked in the make-up industry since he was a young man – from helping to launch Christian Dior’s make-up line in the 1960s to collaborating with Shiseido in the 1980s (and launching it onto the international cosmetics scene). He is also known for his fragrances and eventually established his own make-up line in the early 2000s. In a nutshell, this man knows make-up.

Here are my personal favorites from Serge Lutens. All the quotes under the make-up names are from Serge Lutens’ website. They describe the products in such a poetic way, I had to include them!

Eyeshadow 3: Beautiful for daytime wear.
“Sand, dunes, erosion and dust.” – Serge Lutens

Mascara (with brush applicator): Mascara and lashes = best friends.

I’ve also recently discovered an eyelash curler that I can’t live without! The hand-calibrated Japanese design works to gently bend and lengthen lashes without breaking or pinching.

Note that the staying power of Serge Lutens make-up does make it more difficult to remove. I highly recommend using Serge Lutens eye make-up remover pads, Almay make-up remover pads or coconut oil.

Integrating make-up into your fashion statement is not hard. Department stores (such as Barneys or Bergdorf Goodman) and make-up specialty stores (such as Sephora) have make-up artists who can advise you on colors and application.

Just as you would invest in quality clothing for a perfect fit, invest in quality make-up products to refine and finish your look.
